Survival Instinct

This fun and challenging event was taken in part from a genuine incident in which a party found themselves thrust into a survival situation. A select number of employees had been chosen to take part in an official celebration with no expense spared. This includes the staff involved travelling by executive charter flight from London to Latvia where they would transfer to a private estate which had recently been converted into a luxury spar retreat. The final leg of the journey will be by way of a large Russian ex-military helicopter. But disaster strikes and the helicopter is forced to crash land 150 miles in dense forest. How will you survive and ensure you have the best chance of being picked up?

The aims are the development of teamwork, the encouragement of participation, and the advancement of an individual’s ability to be resourceful. We achieve this by placing participants in a challenging but safe environment which introduces and develops these skills through necessity.

As we’re sure you’ll discover, a need for resourcefulness, team work, determination and a desire to succeed are all brought out. The benefits of this are real and highly rewarding. Our Survival Courses have been uniquely designed to achieve this whilst ensuring that everyone who attends comes away with some new, interesting and valuable knowledge, a great sense of achievement, a better understanding of our environment and its values, and most of all a feeling of thorough satisfaction from using their new-found skills and knowledge in ways which could one day save their lives.

There are two options available. Option one is a one day course and option two is an overnight course (adding realism and experience for all concerned).

Three of the UK’s leading Survival Training Instructors lead the challenge plus additional members of staff may also be present as appropriate.

During the course the attendees will:

  • Build their own waterproof and windproof shelters (in which they will spend the night, in surprising comfort and style)
  • Prepare, lay and light fires for warmth, cooking and morale (without the use of lighters or matches)
  • Learn how to acquire water and food from the natural environment around them (from flora, fauna, fungi and the like) and prepare and eat a wild food dish!
  • Discover how to signal for rescue most effectively using a variety of methods, and what to do in the event of an aerial rescue by Search and Rescue helicopter
  • Learn how to tell time and direction using only the sun, stars and shadows, and how to navigate very accurately without GPS, maps or compasses!
  • Develop an understanding of human physiological and medical needs, dangers to health and how to avoid them in a survival situation.

Our experience gained on numerous previous group courses is that combining a competitive element with activities during the course is both motivational and adds to everyone’s enjoyment. To that end, prizes will be awarded for the best shelter construction, the best wild food preparation and the best trap or snare constructed.

At the end of the course, each attendee will receive a personalised, professionally printed Survival Training Certificate.
